Lady Elliot Island - Qld - Australia

Lady Elliot Island is a spectacular coral cay lying at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef, 50 miles (80km) northeast of Bundaberg off the Queensland coast. Completely surrounded by a reef flat, excellent diving and snorkelling can be enjoyed straight off the beach for 2 hours either side of high tide. Reef walking is possible at low tide but requires protective footwear - take an old pair of trainers if you do not have dive boots. Offshore diving and snorkelling from the west side of the island features shipwrecks, coral gardens and blowholes. The island is also a bird reserve and has a small informal resort with pool, snack and restaurant facilities.
