Levanzo - Sicily, Italy

Levanzo is one of the Egadi Islands, a group of islands in the Mediterranean Sea, southern Italy, off the western coast of Sicily. The major islands are Favignana, Marettimo, and Levanzo which have a population of 12,400 between them. In 241 BC a Roman fleet defeated the Carthaginians near these islands, bringing to a close the First Punic War. The islands are now a part of the province of Trapani, in Sicily. The chief industry of the islands is fishing, particularly for tuna and anchovy.
